While I am not aware of research in this area, I can say that the benefits of organic include reducing the toxin burden in the body as well as getting more nutrient dense foods, both of which would be advantageous to the prevention of as well as to improve outcomes for this disease.

Thanks so much for your email. First let me remark that I can't address personal diagnoses in this forum so you may email me at aka@ashleykoffapproved.com if you are interested in an appointment. Second, I can generally say that when it comes to digestive wellness, efforts to improve nutrient balance and eating occasion frequency so that the digestive system stays underwhelmed help (for more on this see my book "Recipes for IBS") and I do recommend a high quality probiotic such as Align.

What can you tell me about Hiatel Hernias? I have one and require a PPI for it. I take 20 mg. everyday for the past 5 years. I am a vegetarian (20 years) I have tried not taking the meds in the past but have always gotten the chest and back pain that comes with the HH. I eat well and walk. I take calcium, B complex and D3 (800 mg) I also eat dairy free yogurt with 2 T of ground flax seed in it everyday. I dring 3 cups decaf green tea with honey everyday as well. What do you reccomend? (i know you are not a doctor, but they cant help, they only want to keep me on meds} Also, lots and lots of back and neck pain. By the way i am 46, 5'3 and 112 ibs. Thank You

Ashley,
You talked about the role of pesticides on ABC channel.
I've read somewhere about a possible connection between pesticides and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Any comments?

A broken tendon in my foot three years ago has kept me wheelchair and bed bound until recently. Eight surgeries in two years and a weight gain. Chronic pain is now the issue and meditation is the best endorphine source I have found for pain management. Now that things are healing/scarring, exercise is also vital. And laughter- did you know that a minute of laughter gets your heart rate up as high as ten minutes of running?

Can you tell me where I can get more information about the natural remedies you discuss in this post? As an RD with GERD, I'd love to learn more about the potential for natural treatment. I've been applying all the traditional approaches with little success and I hate to think about staying on a PPI for the long haul!

I am not familiar with the concept of alkalining the digestive tract. How does that work with lemons and limes, which are acidic?
